Rougelikes & Fairness

Been playing Dead Cells a lot lately. Had it on my old nintendo switch and got up to like bc3 or bc4 when I was giga grinding it a few years ago while I was depressed as shit lmaoooo. Since I sold my switch and rebought the game on steam I've been building back up to where I was on my previous account, but I've had a fairly easy time doing so just cause the skill carries over ofc. But that got me thinking about how much a rougelike relies on a players skill vs rng. Specifically I've been thinking about Dead Cells vs Balatro. They're both great games, but I do feel like Balatro frequently puts you in an unwinnable situation just because it is almost purely rng based. Idk why I feel like this is an important thought I just thought it was interesting. I'm sure some people enjoy the more luck based gameplay, but I really appreciate how Dead Cells balances rng with actual player skill, making any run winnable as long as ur good enough at the game. I may just be shit at Balatro tho...

Helped put up some Christmas decorations today!!! Mostly I just polished the silver, but I enjoyed it lmao :3 I also finally got Webstorm downloaded and linked up my git repo with Neocities, so I can stop using the... questionable in browser editor provided by Neocities. It's a bit of an adjustment using an actual IDE, I've used Neovim pretty much since I started messing with computers, but now that I've switched back to Windows from Linux I think a standard IDE makes a little bit more sense. Working on some pixel graphics for the age entrance page, hopefully they won't look like complete shit lmaoooooo.
